Beerline Cafe is a great, relatively new restaurant in Milwaukee that you’ll want to visit again and again. I know this because it happened to me. In the span of a couple weeks, I visited Beerline Cafe four times. What can I say? It’s a great place to meet friends. It’s great for people who […]
Hi, Dairy-Free Staters! I’ve got a quick recipe that should get you over this mid-week hump. I talked about this recipe way back when, when I did the Whole30. On Monday, I started cutting out sugar (more on that in a future post). This recipe Monkey Salad is good for anyone looking for a sweet […]
Now that I’m back writing more regular posts, I’ve made it my goal to review more dairy-free products. One of the reasons I started Dairy-Free State is because I didn’t want people to waste their money on products that didn’t taste good, like I had to for years. I also realized I didn’t have any […]
We’re at the tail end of strawberry season, and I just got a haul. My mom and I went out to Barthel Fruit Farm and picked 2 flats of strawberries. I’m not sure how many pounds, but it was enough to freeze a gallon of strawberries, make 8 jars of jam, 8 jars of preserves, […]
Hello, dear readers of Dairy-Free State! After quite a bit of radio (blog?) silence, I am back with more content, more reviews, more recipes, more everything! First up, a review of Blooming Lotus, a relatively new Milwaukee bakery. I hope you missed me because I sure missed regularly posting.

This year, our plans include canning strawberries, peaches, cherries, and apples, with the possibility of adding blueberries into the mix. Last summer we got a crate of peaches from Tree-Ripe and made peach jam, among […]
This summer, we were lucky enough to pick up some delicious deliveries from Tree-Ripe. We bought peaches at the beginning of the summer (and made awesome recipes like Peach Pancakes and Sangria) and blueberries near the end of the summer. I took a ton of blueberries and froze them to use during the cold months.
The title of the blog is a mouthful, and so is the smoothie! I almost considered calling this blog: “The Dairy-Free State Root Canal Recipes.” I just had a root canal this morning, and am planning on not chewing for the next four days. I decided to scour my pantry and make a smoothie that fed […]
Sometimes, small tweaks can revive an old recipe. In this case, I turned a recipe I made last summer into a slightly different recipe featuring a couple different baking ingredients. With this new year, I give you a facelift of a previous recipe: vegan cranberry pecan chocolate chip muffins.
The Polar Vortex is definitely moving back in. Well, technically, I guess it never left. That weird fog in the summer was a result of our lingering frosty friend.
