I know this because it happened to me. In the span of a couple weeks, I visited Beerline Cafe four times. What can I say? It’s a great place to meet friends. It’s great for people who are dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, or vegetarian as well. I just had to say a few words about this dairy-free-friendly slice of heaven!
Beerline Cafe is an all-vegetarian restaurant on Commerce Street, close to Lakefront Brewery. It bills itself as an “inexpensive to moderately priced low-environmental-impact vegetarian ‘fast-casual’ café.” The prices are definitely good for the quality of food you get at the cafe. They’re open 8-8 every day except for Sunday (open 8-7), so you can visit Beerline Cafe for any meal. Plus, breakfast is available all day.
I have been to Beerline Cafe for coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have to say, I’ve enjoyed everything I tried on the menu. I’m used to going to restaurants where there are only a couple things I can choose from, but Beerline is different. Most items on the menu are available vegan, and many are also available gluten-free, including the crepes. The menu is clearly marked to help you make a decision based on your dietary needs, and the friendly folks behind the counter are more than happy to answer any of your questions.

A few things I’d recommend trying based on meal time:
- Breakfast: The Americana Crepe (sub vegan cheese with vegan batter). Nothing says America like apple pie with cheese on top. This crepe is a recreation of that very old-school favorite. Plus, they sprinkle the top with granola!
- Lunch: Classic Breakfast Savory Crepe (made vegan). The crepe has all the elements of a classic American breakfast – potatoes, tempeh bacon, tofu scramble, vegan cheese – plus you can add sauteed veggies. I’d highly recommend you upgrade
- Dinner: BLAT(z). The tempeh maple bacon Beerline has is just great. I have had a hard time mastering tempeh at home, but they nail it here. The avocado and tabasco vegan mayo complement each other really well.
Have you tried Beerline Cafe? What are your favorite things there?
