Please check out my disclosure policy for more details! The first time my mom ever bought me crumpets, I’m pretty sure I was going through an anglophile phase, which I’m pretty sure was brought on by the Spice Girls and that British shop in Door County we visited every year. I got candy there that was so sweet, it should have been illegal.
I was also really obsessed with tea (still am), so I’m sure my mom figured, why not have crumpets to go with it?
Before she bought crumpets, I think I was picturing scones or something. I mean, I was six. I had no idea. However, when I found out what they were, I grew to really love them, and enjoy eating them to this day.
The beauty of crumpets is that I have a brand I can buy at my local co-op that is dairy-free! It’s like getting an English muffin, but better, because the nooks and crannies are deeper, and therefore, tastier. I highly recommend Duffy’s crumpets, if you can get them near you.
If it’s your first time having crumpets, you may be wondering what you can use to top them. Here’s 5 ideas to get you going:
- soy yogurt + maple syrup + strawberries
Or, if you’re using sweetened yogurt, skip the syrup. The yogurt will just sink into the crumpet and each bite will explode with deliciousness. - vegan butter + jam
We made homemade strawberry jam last year, and will be making it again this year, and nothing is more satisfying than eating homemade jam with a crumpet. - banana + peanut butter
I recommend you put bananas and peanut butter on almost anything, so, come on. - rawtella/rawmio
If you haven’t tried the vegan version of Nutella, go out and get some now. Other options include products on this list. So good. So chocolatey. So not something I should be eating for breakfast. - tomato + soy cheese
For a savory start to your morning, tomatoes + cheese hit the right notes.

If you’re feeling particularly dangerous, combine some of the toppings (but probably don’t combine the tomato & cheese with anything. That would be gross).
